Urodynamic Study

A video urodynamic study assesses how the bladder and urethra are performing their job of storing and releasing urine. 

A video urodynamic study is performed when a patient has symptoms of urinary incontinence, urge incontinence, poor stream/incomplete bladder emptying, urinary difficulties associated with neurological diseases and men with urinary blockage symptoms. 

The procedure involves the patient attending the clinic and voiding into a special toilet which measures the flow of urine (called a uroflowmetry). After your initial void, fine catheters are inserted which fill the bladder and allow measurements to be recorded. The patient then describes their sensations of urgency or discomfort during the procedure. X-rays are taken during the test.
