Once under general anaesthesia, adequate local anaesthetic is applied for postoperative pain. Dr Al-Sameraaii makes small incisions to reach the vas deferens. These vas deferens are the tubes that carry sperm from the testis to the penis. The vas deferens are cut on both sides and a titanium clip is applied with bipolar diathermy. A segment of the vas is sent away to pathology.
The patient will be home the same day and will be given a request to do a seminal fluid analysis a few weeks postoperatively to confirm azoospermia (semen containing no sperm).
The vasectomy procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes.
